July 4th Bash

Yesterday Mary and I and about 60 other of her family and friends gathered at the Pardee Reservoir in Valley Springs, California. The gathering revolved around two purposes…an annual family gathering and Laurie’s (Mary’s oldest son’s wife) 50th birthday celebration. They were married in this beautiful setting in 1990.

Party headquarters was this gazebo.

Here’s one view from the gazebo. The swimming pool got lots of use.

Here’s another view from the gazebo.

Here’s the birthday girl, Laurie.

Among the gifts Laurie received was this basket full “necessities” for turning 50.

Mary, the matriarch of the family, prepares to chow down.

The volleyball court was busy most of the day.

All in all it was a very pleasant day for me meeting Mary’s friends and relatives, most of whom I had not yet met.

I’ve only one complaint for the day. At a blistering 99 degrees in mid-afternoon it was about 25 degrees to warm for me. I’m eagerly looking forward to my return to the Pacific Northwest next Tuesday where the current forecast is a few showers and 66 degrees!
