The One Million Dollar Eagle

was just a few of the things we saw yesterday when we attended the Feats Of Clay exhibit and also toured the Gladding, McBean terra cotta factory in Lincoln, CA.

The Feats Of Clay is an annual exhibit of artistic pottery and the Gladding, McBean factory has been making everything imaginable from clay since 1875. Gladding, McBean is the only remaining major manufacturer of ornamental hand-sculptured terra cotta in the United States. Throughout the years over 9,000 orders have been received for custom-made terra cotta products and garden pottery that have become part of the architectural beauty of some of America’s most famous buildings.

The below picture is of a one million dollar Eagle made for the U.S.Naval Training Center at Great Lakes, Illinois where I went to Navy Boot Camp 51 years ago. As you might guess the eagle was paid for by your grandparent’s tax dollars.

The one million dollar Eagle is made in sections.
