Mark Twain slept here

Recently Mary and I traveled along CA State Highway 49 between Sonora and Angels Camp, CA. Just South of the Stanislaus River on the North side of the road there is a sign that says “Mark Twain Cabin – one mile”. You can see this cabin in the below photo. Actually according to a sign there, the cabin belonged to the Gillis Brothers and Mark Twain stayed with them from December 4, 1864 to February 25, 1865. It’s perched high atop a hill know as Jackass Hill and has a lovely view of the area below.

The cabin has been fenced to protect from vandalism.
