Mary has a little Prius…

its paint is white as snow,
everywhere the Prius goes,
Mary is sure to go!

Here’s Mary’s Prius story as told by herself…

I was determined to have an electric car when Toyota first brought them to the U.S. for trials on a lease arrangement. I was turned down because they were only allowing those people who lived in the Los Angeles area to lease them.

Their second offering was the three year old Prius Hybrid (dual engine-electric/gasoline). They offered to ship their 2001 models, three per dealership to the U.S. but only to those dealerships that agreed to train and provide a special Prius mechanic. The closest dealership to Murphys that qualified to sell the Prius’ was Modesto Toyota. There was no way of knowing how many people would buy the highly advertised Hybrid on its debut date in July of 2000. So my saleswoman, knowing how very important it was for me to buy a Prius ordered it at Midnight of its debut day. The buyer had a choice of three colors and no choice of any options. The buyer had no opportunity to test drive the Prius. She then placed the order again at the open of business at her dealership, that same day, just to make sure. I purchased the first one in the state and was feted with a couple of gifts from Toyota, my picture in the paper and a couple of gifts from the Dealership as well.

In the mountainous area where I live, I average 44.7 mpg in the winter and 47 mpg in the summer. On the flatlands it is substantially higher.
