Yuma Territorial Prison – 1895

On Sunday Mary and I visited the Yuma Territorial Prison site. It operated from 1876 to 1909 and housed some of the Southwest’s most notorious characters of the day. During our visit we got to see a number of old Gunfighter groups from AZ, CA and NV who put on skits about gunfights in the Old West. There were about 200 participants and it was really interesting to see them in the period costumes.

The below photo of the prison was taken in 1985. The prison as seen from the California side of the Colorado River.
