Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala

From my book…’After about three hours of ChiChi, we decided to drive on to the next town of Santa Cruz del Quiche, population about 8,000, and about ten miles further. Our guidebook says it’s “a quaint, friendly town which few tourists ever reach.” Much to our pleasant surprise, it was a holiday and a “fiesta” was in progress, and the whole town was there! We wandered around, enjoying the sights, and I got some more great pictures. A live ten-piece band was playing typical Guatemalan music, and there was plenty of food and people! We returned at 4 PM, thoroughly exhausted, but exhilarated! Happy hour adjacent to our rigs overlooking the lake topped off one of the most enjoyable days of the entire trip! Since it was cloudy, the afternoon high temperature was only 78 degrees. Very comfortable!’
