King Banana

A whole bunch of bananas

The workers hang big bunches of bananas on this mini-rail system, and push them along to an awaiting train, which transports them to a boxing and shipping plant.

From my book…”05/29- (Day 149) At Cahuita. 6 AM temperature was 79 degrees. At 10 AM, we took the Bronco along the northwest coast and eventually came to an area known as La Estrella (the star). This is a Dole Company area and company-town. There are several banana plantations that cover a number of square miles. It was interesting to see just how the bananas are grown and transported. In the afternoon, I had a nice siesta and read my book. A pleasant happy two hours adjacent to our rigs.”

Note…Starting about mid-way Mexico and through out all of Central America, the banana is king. I’ve seen so many square miles of banana plantations that I cannot even begin to guess the number! There are a “bunch”…excuse the pun! 🙂
